MP2890 Overview:

The MP2890 is a dual-channel digital multi-phase controller capable of powering core power supplies that utilize Pulse Width Modulation Voltage Identification (PWM-VID) control, while also being compatible with the AVSBus interface. The MP2890 can be used in conjunction with MPS’s Intelli-Phase™ products to implement a complete multi-phase voltage regulator (VR) solution with a minimum number of external components.

The MP2890 can be configured to operate with up to 20 phases on Rail 1 and up to 8 phases on Rail 2.

The device features on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) for storing and restoring device configurations, and device configurations and fault parameters can be easily configured or monitored via the PMBus/I²C interface.

By monitoring the current-sampling output of the Intelli-Phase™ device, the MP2890 can monitor and report the output current (IOUT).

Based on a unique digital multiphase nonlinear control scheme, the device provides fast load transient response with minimal output capacitance. Since a single power-loop control method is used for both steady-state and load transients, power-loop compensation configuration is very simple.

The MP2890 is available in a QFN-64 (8 mm × 8 mm) package.
