In terms of core specifications, the RA8 series is equipped with the Arm Cortex-M85 core. Certain models support single-core or dual-core architectures, with a maximum operating frequency of up to 1GHz. Some products integrate the Ethos™-U55 NPU, delivering 0.25 TOPS of AI computing power, enabling them to effortlessly handle complex digital signal processing (DSP) and machine learning (ML) tasks—achieving a fourfold increase in ML task speed compared to the Cortex-M7 core. thanks to support for the Arm Helium™ SIMD instruction set, which efficiently processes multiple data elements, extending intelligent processing to the edge, reducing cloud traffic and lowering overall power consumption.
In terms of features, the RA8 series offers a comprehensive upgrade in security, integrating Renesas’ latest security IP and supporting TrustZone® technology based on the Arm v8.1m architecture. It features immutable bootloader storage, dynamic decryption of OSPI, protection against DPA/SPA side-channel attacks, and secure debugging capabilities, providing comprehensive defence against cyber threats and malicious attacks.
